A cousin of mine got a scholarship this year. I was very happy to get the news from her and congratulated her on her success. She teased me and asked what my gift was for her? I smiled and told her that I’d be sending some money for her and it would be entirely her call on what to do with the money I send. She was surprised on hearing this. She was clearly not expecting this but a promise is a promise and I had made up my mind on sending the money. My cousin pointed out that I didn’t have to take the trouble because she doesn’t have a bank account. So there was no need to send any money. I just told her to keep her ID ready and wait for my call.
Afterwards, I logged on to my Remit2Home account and send some money for her. Remit2Home’s cash pick up facility came to my aid as my cousin’s not having a bank account did not appear as a problem. The facility is available at various bank branches across Philippines and hence the receiver does not require having a bank account to receive the remittance. I called up my cousin in the evening and told her to pick up the cash. She was overwhelmed with emotion as I told her to keep doing better.
